At 24 years of age, Leslie Smith was a homeless burn victim, discharged from the Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill to a nearby shelter. In her talk she will describe her journey from victim to survivor, from homeless shelter through medical school to a career as a physician working to meet the needs of the under-served. The angels of her story are those who through acts of kindness assisted in her physical and emotional recovery and helped her on her way.
This event is sponsored by Burn Survivors of New England and made possible by the generosity of Dr. Smith and the Shriners Hospital for Children. There is no charge for this event, although donations to "The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors" will be gratefully accepted.

“Scald” burns. Be careful when boiling liquids in a microwave
A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before).
